Job Description

This contract supports the Department of Transportation assisting commercial drivers using the Diabetes and Vision Exemption Program. The goal is to allow commercial drivers to perform their job functions with their diabetes or vision deficiencies. This position requires a Baccalaureate Degree Registered Nurse with a broad base of clinical experience with knowledge of insulin treated diabetes and related associated medical conditions. Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to: Evaluates applications for an exemption from the diabetes mellitus prohibitions for insulin-using diabetic drivers to operate commercial motor vehicles interstate. Assesses medical information from applicants and their physicians related to proper diabetes management. Communicates effectively in writing and via phone calls with applicants, their endocrinologists, ophthalmologists, optometrists and other professionals to resolve issues in order to determine if applicants meet the requirements for exemption and can be approved for interstate driving. Manages all outgoing correspondence. Assist the drivers in navigating the application process. Works independently and within a team to meet the needs of the contract.
